I know for myself that I have needed help since as far back as I can remember. Needing assistance is not a sign of weakness; rather, it highlights our interdependence as human beings. I vividly recall the countless attempts my patient and loving mother made to teach me how to tie my shoes. It was a frustrating process, but her unwavering support and guidance made all the difference. Without my mom, accomplishing such a seemingly simple task would have been an uphill battle. Reflecting upon those early years, I realize that this need for help extended beyond basic skills like tying shoelaces. From navigating complex mathematical equations to unraveling the mysteries of science to comprehending historical events with depth and detail – every step along my academic journey required assistance in some form or another. I was not the best student, so I needed all the help I could get.

Yet it doesn’t stop there; life embraces multifaceted challenges extending far beyond textbooks and classrooms. The spectrum of necessities expands greatly – from refining my basketball techniques and fostering meaningful friendships to strategizing moves on a chessboard or mastering culinary arts – we find ourselves relying on others’ expertise time and again. Even when attempting mundane tasks like cleaning or seeking directions, humble acknowledgment of our limitations becomes essential. Let us be honest with ourselves: no one can truly claim they never require any kind of help throughout their lives; such claims would merely be fabrications about self-sufficiency. Thomas Jefferson captured this sentiment beautifully, “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.” Do you also strive to help others? That is an important question to consider. ~ Bill Greguska

Do You Need Help?

Do you need help? NeedEncouragement.com

Don’t be afraid to ask for help; do not wait until things get out of hand!

Where does your help come from? My help comes from the Lord! It is like putting perfume on someone — you cannot keep from getting a little on yourself at the same time! One big lesson that my mom taught me was the importance of asking questions, asking for help, and getting clarification. We all need assistance from time to time, but when we do not ask for it when we need it, that is no one’s fault but your own.

When you ask someone to give you a hand, think about it. For example, you could get a fish sandwich from someone, and you will eat it for a day, but if someone can benefit you by teaching you to fish, you can eat it for a lifetime. Sometimes, I half-heartedly was paying attention, which resulted in not understanding. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, just like there is nothing wrong with offering it to someone else! ~ Bill Greguska
