Prophecy is something that makes God’s word that much more authentic. How could it be that Jesus and men, through God’s power, prophesy hundreds of years before something has ever happened? But with God, all things are possible. There are 354 prophecies of Jesus that Jesus fulfilled, and He is coming back again. That amazes me! I can remember a time in my Christian life when I did not understand that much about prophecy. In God’s time, I learned more and became more familiar with prophecy.

The purpose of prophecies was not to enable men to anticipate an event ahead of time, but to accept it as a fulfilled prophecy after its fulfillment. As Christians, we do not have to understand all things, the Holy Spirit will revile what we need to know when we need to know it. The noun prophecy describes a “prediction of the future, made under divine inspiration” or a “revelation of God.” The act of making a prophecy is the verb, prophecy. Of the prophecies in the Bible about events that were to have taken place by now, each one was fulfilled with 100% accuracy; this is a statement that cannot be truthfully made about any other “sacred writing.” This is very important because the Bible says God will give us a savior who provides a way to go to heaven. If the prophecies are 100% accurate, we know it will happen without a doubt because God does not lie.

What Is A “Messianic” Prophecy?

The Old Testament books of the Bible (all of them written between 1450 BC and 430 BC) contained hundreds of prophecies about an “anointed one” (“Messiah” in Hebrew) who would arrive in their future. The Messiah would “deliver” or “save” all the Jewish people, bringing them to paradise or heaven. These prophecies also stated that the Messiah would save all the other people in the world “through the Jews.” For this reason, people who are not Jewish need to learn about the Messiah, too. The Old Testament points out what happened and what will happen, and The New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Both make up the entire word of God!
