As someone who has zealously embraced this practice for countless years, I wholeheartedly confess that my mornings feel incomplete without the soothing embrace of my morning reading. Devotionals Are A Important Part Of A Spiritual Life!
Start Having Your Own Quiet Time With God?
I have been journaling for the past couple of years now. In my quiet time in the morning in the bathroom, I search the scriptures with either my concordance or page through my Bible, which is marked. Then, take the scripture verse in my 8 x 11 notebook. Put the date on, and then I comment on the scripture. Also, read the entire chapter of whatever scripture I choose for the day.
Then, I write down both praises and prayer requests in the bottom half of the notebook. When I finished that, I read everything I wrote, including a list of about five things I wanted to accomplish that day. (The next day, I check off the things I accomplished and failed to achieve and add them to the new day.) Having done all this, I pray about my prayer requests and ask God for direction for the day.
Use My Ideas And Fit Them Into Your Plans.
Remember that any new habit can be hard, so I recommend starting slowly and building up. Be more concerned about having daily quiet time, no matter how much. 5-10 minutes each morning (morning is the best time. Otherwise, we tend to get busy as the day starts.
I do my quiet time before I eat. First, feed the soul, then feed the body. I started years ago by reading a flip-up devotional and praying for a few minutes, and now I enjoy my quiet time with God so much I get up 2 hours before I start work at 7:00 to have enough time to fit in my time with God, shower, shave, eat breakfast, and have time to drive to work. ~ Bill Greguska
Scripture
Take the time to read your Bible; you need to allow God to speak to your heart and mind. After reading, look for a specific verse that spoke to you and write it in your journal.
Observation
Decide what you can take from the reading and apply it. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and uniquely open your ears.
Application
Ask God to help you apply what you have read in a way that can make a difference in your life or the life of someone you know. It could be in the form of specific instruction, encouragement, promise, or corrections for a particular area in life that you might be struggling with. Write down how the scripture can directly or indirectly apply to your life today.
Prayer
Pray that God uses the scripture to comfort you, strengthen you, give you wisdom, and share God’s love more with others. Ask God what He wants you to learn, and then pray that you can apply the scripture to your life and those you know.
