17 Bible Verses About Romantic Relationships
Please get in touch with us if you have any questions or need some encouragement.
On this page, we explain romantic relationships from a Christian perspective, emphasizing patience, wisdom, purity, and discernment before marriage. It teaches that romance can be beautiful but also painful if rushed or handled outside God’s design, especially regarding sex before marriage. We encourage couples to build friendship, shared values, emotional and spiritual connection, family accountability, and time-tested trust before considering marriage. We also warn against confusing infatuation, lust, or “puppy love” with mature love, and include Bible verses and helpful relationship resources for encouragement.
What is a romantic relationship? It is the cornerstone of a strong and healthy marriage. It is based on friendship, mutual interests, and shared values. To maintain a deep connection with your friend and potential future spouse, it’s essential to remain faithful and prioritize each other above all else. It is also the time to get to know one another and their strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes. Use this time to determine if marriage is what God calls you to do. Be patient, ask many questions, spend a lot of time together, and experience, at the very least, all 4 seasons, or even longer.

God’s Guidance For Romantic Relationships!
Keep in mind that the ONLY TIME SEX may be introduced in a romantic relationship is between a married man and his wife. What brought you together in the first place and actively cultivating romance may require some extra effort at times, but it is well worth it in the end. Even as physical attraction fades over time, emotional and spiritual connections can deepen into something truly beautiful — rich with warmth, love, and commitment that will last through life’s ups and downs.
Make sure your friends and family get to know your significant other, and be sure to see each other in different situations to see how they react. Do things together, besides just having fun, going to movies, and going out to eat. Really get to know your partner. ~ Bill Greguska

Romantic Relationships: Love, Purity, And Discernment!
What is your motivation in any relationship? Sometimes, romantic relationships develop prematurely during dating, similar to a marriage relationship, except for the sexual component. I have been in a couple of romantic relationships and have also been married. The best advice is to take things slowly because romantic relationships can be inspiring, especially when you know others feel the same about you.
It is evident that the right romantic relationships are meant only after marriage; otherwise, many costly and unwanted problems can occur, not to mention that it is against God’s will.
Treat the other person as a brother or sister because that is what they are. For example, kissing should be held off until a mutual commitment to marriage is at least discussed. This might be very difficult because of our natural drive for sexuality, plus how the media and the pressure can make things more difficult. ~ Bill Greguska

How To Know If A Romantic Relationship Is Right?
Falling in love (infatuation) is, in other words, the beginning of love. It has no foundation. Passion springs up in the heart of the one who has it. It assumes a lot! So it helps to date the right person from the start. Falling in love (infatuation) is an overwhelming impression.
Be impressed, but wait cautiously, realizing that anyone can look and sound good for a year! It’s after a year that cracks may be seen. A skilled person can hide their authentic self for up to six years!! That’s why we must have discerning love when we think we might be falling in love.
Intelligent love is the mature love that has learned to wait and give the necessary time for God to reveal what is essential to know about their character and how they handled the wounds and disappointments of life, arguments, grudges, likes, dislikes, habits, etc.
Puppy love feels nice for a while, but it does no one any favors! It sets you up for some big disappointment that cannot last. That’s why I called it “weeds which spring up today, and tomorrow it’s gone” (today means a short time, like a month or so). I think that sums things up. ~ Sister Sue Sauer
Some Specific Scriptures To Encourage You:

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
Song of Solomon 1:2 ESV
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine;
Genesis 2:24 ESV
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
John 15:13 ESV
Greater love has no one than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends.
