15 Bible Verses About Trusting Your Emotions!

Please contact us if you have any questions or need encouragement.

On this page, we share that you should not let emotions or feelings lead your life, as they can be very unreliable and misleading. We encourage you to rely instead on God’s wisdom, Scripture, prayer, and self-control, and to use Bible verses and examples of temperament to show how faith and reason should guide emotions.

Can you trust your emotions, since they are beautiful and often bring so much depth to your life? But do not trust your feelings. They come and go depending on the moment. Although emotions aren’t inherently good or bad, remember that how we respond to them can be constructive or destructive. Acting out of love, joy, and peace towards others and ourselves can brighten someone’s day and leave us feeling fulfilled. When we allow destructive emotions like anger or jealousy to control us, they can cause great harm to us and those around us. Do not trust your emotions. It is comforting to know your intellect should guide your emotions, not the other way around, since emotions aren’t always based on truth.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Emotions are sometimes, too often, a knee-jerk response.

Each temperament is in three categories. While it’s impossible to determine your exact character in each category without a complete analysis, you may recognize yourself in one of these overviews.

1. Phlegmatic:

This temperament is the most peaceful. They are excellent negotiators but tend not to want to expend too much energy.

2. Supine:

This temperament aims to please everyone. It has a gentle spirit and deserves recognition for its services. It often says yes when it would prefer to say no.

3. Sanguine:

This extroverted temperament is invigorated by being around people. They love to talk, but they can also experience severe mood swings.

4. Melancholy:

These people focus on their imperfections and shortcomings. They are very private people and need time alone to recharge.

5. Choleric:

This temperament is fast-paced. When in balance, they can be great leaders. If not handled properly, they can become dominant bullies.

Put On the Armor of God!

Ephesians 6:10-17

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the whole armor of God to stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore, put on the whole armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be and your ground, nd, after you have done everything, to and.

Stand firm, then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

In addition, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Turning Your Emotions and Feelings Into Faith

Why God’s Truth Is More Reliable Than Feelings

Learn More About Emotions...NeedEncouragement.com

Do your emotions reflect what God’s Word teaches? If not, you are heading for big trouble or already there!

Your feelings are like a caboose.  Feelings must follow the engine (intellect), not emotions (the caboose). The leading need is intellect. God gives us a brain to make wise choices, and from those wise choices come good emotions and contentment when we follow God’s will. But if we let our feelings lead, we often get derailed and crash. People often let their feelings run the train, and without wisdom, they derail. God has taught us in his word. The bottom line is to keep your emotions under your intellect’s control and follow God in your everyday life, because with prayer, God will give you direction!

People say to follow your heart; I encourage you to follow the Lord instead. When you follow your heart, remember Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.” Who can understand it? For these reasons, and many others, I choose not to let my emotions control me; instead, I follow Jesus Christ and His teaching from God’s word, which has all the answers we need. ~Bill Greguska

Can You Trust Your Emotions?

How Thoughts, Feelings, and Actions Work Together

Emotions! NeedEncouragement.com

Emotions don’t make the right decisions. Instead, God’s Word and facts do. Feelings can be very confusing and not a basis for wise choices.

Do Not Trust Your Emotions!

Our feelings are not necessarily right or wrong, good or bad. But what we do with our so-called “feelings” matters. For example, the Bible says we should not let the sun go down on our anger.

I’m not saying anger is evil, but we need to control all our negative emotions. God’s Word also says in Proverbs 29:11, “Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.”

There is no room for love when we harbor hatred in our hearts. Controlling our negative emotions can be impossible on our own. That’s where prayer and Christian fellowship with others come in. Negative emotions can cause significant damage, not only in relationships but also in life.

Why God’s Truth Is More Reliable Than Feelings?

Emotions... NeedEncouragement.com

Emotions can mislead us when we make wise choices.

Satan tries to confuse us, tempt us, lie to us, steal from us, kill us, and ultimately destroy us. Because Satan hates God, he wants to hurt God by harming us. Since we are at war with Satan, we need to use our intelligence rather than our emotions.

Always use God’s word as a shield in battle and as a sword. Always keep God’s wisdom and God in control of our feelings, because our beliefs are like shifting sand and have no foundation at all.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have the divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
