How bad was your divorce? My divorce hurt not only me but also my family and friends. It hurts everyone. It was one of the most excruciating experiences I have ever gone through. But despite my pain, I refuse to believe that all hope is lost for marriages in our society today. As a Christian, I know that marriage was God’s plan from the beginning and that He hates divorce even more than I do. Remember that God provides ways for couples to resolve problems before things get bad. My divorce was the most painful event in my life, only comparable to my drug and alcohol problem many years before. Divorce will scar a person for life. It is like an amputation; you will still be alive, but a part of you is missing. That is why I believe God hates divorce. My only help came from God and a couple of close Christian friends. There is life after divorce.

God Is Near to the Brokenhearted!

In a divorce involving children, the children are, in a sense, pawns or innocent bystanders in the divorce between the husband and wife. My stepson and I had a good relationship, but the problem was between his mom and me. It’s not easy; it feels like your very flesh is being torn apart into two.

However, we must remember that God knew how much my divorce hurt, and my stepson shared with me later that it was horrible for him, too. God cares deeply about each one of us going through this trial. We must hold on to His promises and trust Him to heal us completely over time. Remember: “You are not alone in your struggle.
