My niece Lora Kesselhon’s story is a testament to this truth and the goodness of God. Despite being diagnosed with brain and spine cancer while pregnant over ten years ago, she defied all odds by overcoming her illness alongside her daughter Ruth, who was born healthy despite initial concerns for both their lives due to Lora’s condition at the time of pregnancy, miraculously healing them both! Cancer or cancer recovery is not a death sentence like it might have been 50-75 years ago! Despite our high technology, we must never forget that God is still in control. I have been blessed to have recently had friends and family members newly diagnosed with cancer. I thank God that they have all emerged victorious after their treatment and recovery. God also provides help with addictions. It is a fact that over the years, cancer has become a very treatable disease, and so is addiction.

My Family And Friends Battled Cancer With Victory!

In the last couple of years, I have personally experienced the healing of 4 close friends who had cancer—Wi, with modern technology that we now have, over 40 years later. I have a better outlook on the word “cancer” since many people I know have recovered from it. My niece, Lora Kesselhorn; my former boss, Ron West; my friend and pastor, Mark Mallwitz; my pastor’s wife, Sue Sauer; and my friend from my Bible study, Terri Stephen, all had cancer in the past couple of years; and all made a full recovery, thank God!
Thousands of others successfully undergo treatment and live healthy lives today! This will pass with advances in medical technology and, of course, with faith in God. Disease and illness can still be scary, but have hope because God is in control.

When You Hear The Word Cancer ~ What Do You Think?
What To Say To Someone Battling Cancer:
Many people I know who had a bout with cancer and won. My pastor/friend Mark Mallwitz is one of those friends who prayed for Mark.
- Show empathy, and do it quietly. A hug and a loving “I’m so sorry,” or “Praying for you and love you!” made a real difference for me. Please don’t compare your struggles to others’ or minimize their pain. (Avoid: “It could be worse. Time heals all wounds. It’s all part of a bigger plan, so don’t worry, and you wouldn’t believe what happened to you; it’s not that bad.” or anything else that suggests that what they’re feeling is wrong).
- Offer specific help, and let them say yes or no. Instead of a general let-me-know-if-I-can-help offer, be specific. It can be as simple as making a few calls on her behalf or running an errand. Why not offer to keep the kids for a few hours while she rests? Go by and fold some laundry for the family. Walk the dog. Bring over a hot meal for the family or some easy-to-microwave frozen meals for later. (Whatever you offer, be OK with their answer. If they decline your help, that’s OK. Let the decision be theirs.)
Some More Good Ideas!
- Support; don’t fix. A phone call, text message, or a simple note or card with encouraging words can mean much. It can completely turn a dark day around. (“Thinking of you and praying for you!” is often enough.) Resist the urge to “fix” the situation for them (e.g., “You know what you need to do is…”); let God handle the “fixing” part.
- Be present and willing to listen. Just be there. Wow, doesn’t that sound simple? Let them know you’re around and still part of their lives. Above all, listen. If they want to talk about it, listen and hear what they say. If they’re silent, be willing to stay with them in the quiet. Still, don’t fix it! Be prepared to answer, “This stinks, and I’m so sorry you’re going through it,” stop there. ~ Melody from DaySpring

Recovery!
Recovering from cancer is a journey that tests one’s faith, strength, and resilience. It can be an uphill battle filled with pain, uncertainty, and fear. However, many people I know have battled cancer and come out victoriously on the other side. Their stories of hope and perseverance remind us that cancer does not define or limit our potential.
The power of prayer combined with modern medicine helped bring about this miracle! We must never forget that we serve a God more significantly than any disease or illness known to man. He has shown His love through countless historical miracles, reminding us of His mercy towards those who call upon Him for help. Lora and her baby Ruth are both happy, healthy, and cancer-free! Cancer is still something to be concerned about, but not as much as it used to be. There is fear and trepidation involved when the doctor first tells their patient.
