  1. Start with plausible justification

    • “This isn’t really cheating—it’s optimizing.”
    • “It’s not harmful—it’s just words.”
    • The goal is to prevent moral friction early.

  2. Lower the cost of crossing the line

    • Make the first step tiny and deniable.
    • Each step is framed as the “exception,” until exceptions become identity.

  3. Reward immediacy

    • Push the person toward relief, thrill, revenge, or applause.
    • Delay and long-term consequences get replaced by instant payoff.

  4. Make consequences feel abstract

    • Harm becomes a statistic, a future problem, or “someone else’s issue.”
    • If the brain can’t visualize impact, it can’t properly weigh it.

  5. Use identity capture

    • Tie the behavior to “who you are”: being tough, edgy, honest, special, victim, loyal, etc.
    • Once it’s identity, changing course feels like betraying self.

  6. Turn empathy into weakness

Satan is the serpent, the Great Dragon, Beelzebul, the ruler of this world, the prince of the power of the air, the evil one, and the adversary. He is Satan. And if you follow Jesus Christ, he hates you passionately.
He is prowling about like a roaring lion, seeking to destroy you. How can you stand firm and resist the devil so that he will flee from you? First, do not be naïve; consider his tactics and strategies.
  1. Tries to cripple your effectiveness through confusion, discouragement, and despair. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9.
  2. Blind the spiritual eyes of your unsaved family and friends so they cannot see the glory of Jesus in the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4).
  3. Persecute you for your godliness. Revelation 2:10.
  4. End your life. Psalm 106:37; John 8:44.
  5. Tempt you to try to fool others to create an illusion. Acts 5:3; John 8:44.
