1. Why Do People Hate?

Lord, I believe that I need to open my heart to others with your love and also guard my heart at the same time because there is much evil in this world. Sometimes my feelings can get hurt when what I am saying gets shot down by others in a disrespectful way. Lord, help us to think of ways I can turn my cheek when someone insults or disrespects me. I have learned to let it go as quickly as possible and even try to be kind to those people, instead of clamping down like a pit bull would do with their jaws and teeth. I have learned how important it is to be aware of when I am not letting go of something which is causing me stress, worry, or anxiety. Lord. I need to realize that as far as it depends on me, I need to get along with everyone somehow or another.

Lord, my sinful instinct is to pay back those who have hurt me, but please teach me to love one another, and help me to do your will Lord and lean not on to my own understanding.

Teach me to be more like you. Help us to keep in mind that love wins over hate all the time. I believe it is good to think of some ways that I can be kind to those who irritate us because the person who angers me will end up controlling me and my thoughts and emotions. Luke 6:27 But to you who are listening, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.

It’s good for everyone to understand that they are to love their enemies, simply because your enemies show you things about yourself you need to change. So in actuality, enemies are friends in reverse. ~ Gary Busey is an American actor who has appeared in over 150 films.

2. Do Not Repay Evil with Evil

Lord, I have seen when people retaliate after someone does them wrong, that is never the solution, but rather it is best to overlook an offense rather than adding more gas to the situation. Yes, it is okay to speak up for myself, but paying back evil with evil is not the way to do things. I come to you to pray and ask you, Lord, how to handle hurtful situations. I have heard it said that you, Lord, help those who help others, so when I consider pointing out the offense using love or merely dropping the matter, so it does not escalate. You can count on it that there will be a time when someone says something negative, it does not permit me to retaliate, but most often the best thing to do is take the high road and don’t say anything, and just guard my heart as your word says for me to do.

Lord, help remind me that love is the answer, not repaying evil for evil.

Give me the power to resist the natural temptation to get back at others, and instead, use wise discretion to solve our problems by continuing to come to you in prayer. It is also wise to think of how I usually respond when someone is rude to me? Does my reaction glorify you, Lord? Also, I need to think of what is something I can keep in mind how not to repay evil for evil, but rather, repay evil with good Lord, such as a kind word if possible, or change the conversation like my mom used to do by saying, “How are those Milwaukee Brewers doing?” Luke 6:29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.

Even if someone does say something negative, it does not give us a reason to retaliate; just take the high road and don’t say anything. ~ Catriona Gray is a model and singer, who was crowned Miss Universe 2018.

3. Avoid Bad Influences

Lord, I must realize that I too was once a bad influence when I was a teenager and into my twenties, with that in my mind and heart, I can have more compassion on others who have chosen the evil over good. Lord, the first thing to always do is to pray, then think of what I can do to help someone who is a bad influence on others? It is very wise to evaluate my friends since they will have a direct effect on my life, some are meant to help you, others you are intended to help, and others you need to dust your sandals from their sinful and unrepentant ways, but keep them in your prayers. It takes wisdom to follow the prompting from you, Lord, instead of what seems right or convenient to me at times. Don’t stop at just running away from them, I need to ask you, Lord, if there is something I can do to influence them in the right direction. I need to step back to evaluate if my friends help me, and lift me up, or do they point me in directions that lead me into trouble?

Lord, it is our prayer that you give me understanding and wisdom to know who to call my friends, and who are not worth the risk to spend time with for my own good.

There are sometimes when there is an excellent reason to stop spending time with a friend, maybe temporarily, maybe permanently until they show signs that they are interested or willing to honoring (at least respect) you, Lord. I do not like to give up on trying to help people, but if they are bond and determined to go the opposite direction away from you, Lord, and will not take heed, then do not be a fool to follow. Show us your way Lord in all areas of my life, help me point those people to you, Lord, through prayer. I need to keep in mind that if I do not stand for something in my life, I will fall for anything. Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

Better be alone than in bad company. ~ Thomas Fuller skills helped proved the enslaved Blacks were equal to whites in intelligence.

4. Don’t Fall into Temptation

Lord, I have seen that there are many ways to fall into temptation. First of all, even if we have a close relationship with you Lord, I am still going to sin, but sin less if I am a Christian, due to the relationship I have with you. If we know the weak points or triggers that lead us to temptation, by all means, we need to try to avoid them at all costs or risk falling into sin. With your help Lord, once I can conquer a temptation, the next time it comes around, I find that it will be easier for me to conquer again and again. I need to keep praying about my sinful attractions, because Satan will try to hinder our prayers, but at the same time, our prayer will hinder Satan.

Lord, no matter how hard we try, I can not avoid temptation in this sinful world I live in, but help me to avoid the people, places, and things that make it more accessible to be tempted, help me to submit myself to you Lord and resist the devil.

If our weakness is alcohol, food, tobacco, drugs, pornography, greed, then I need to treat those things no longer as a friend, but instead as an enemy that I need to conquer. It is wise to have a strategic plan ahead of time to foresee possible areas that temptation could trip me up. If I am presently dealing with temptation, praying and fasting can be a great help to me. I need to take a moment or two to list the warning areas in our life that I seem to fall into temptation most often. And finally, I need to learn from my repeated mistakes and try not to keep making them again and again. Matthew 26:41Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Too many Christians have a commitment to convenience. They’ll stay faithful as long as it’s safe and doesn’t involve risk, rejection, or criticism. Instead of standing alone in the face of challenge or temptation, they check to see which way their friends are going. ~ Charles Stanley, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

5. The Lust For Money

Lord, I know I need to look at how I view the money that I have been blessed with, or I do not have. Am I content with whichever situation I may be in today. I always know that you Lord will supply my needs according to your wisdom, yet I will not always give us all that I want, which is a big difference. So I must not allow the lust for money, which can easily bring me down because it is the root of all evil in this world. I ask myself, Lord, if I have been a little too preoccupied with money lately? Lord, the best things in life aren’t things and that you Lord will provide for me what I need, beyond that is when lust and greed come in.

Lord, I want to thank you for all your blessings, and I trust you that when I lack in some area, there is a reason for it and that I should continue to believe in you and your provision.

Help me always to recall all that you have done for me in my life already, and knowing that, you will complete what you have started in me. In the meanwhile helping me to avoid the lust for money that can so easily entangle me. I need to evaluate if I need to make any changes concerning my feelings about money, and if so, make them. Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

I had a good upbringing, we didn’t have any money, but there was a lot of love in my family. ~ Daniel John Dyer is an English actor who has worked in television, film, and theater.

6. Confession of Sin Is Needed

Lord, there is no possible way to recall every sin that I failed to confess to you up until now. Please accept a blanket confession and trust that I have turned from them. I believe that confessing my sins will please you Lord and give me the forgiveness I so desperately need. Lord, you want my account to be without debt, and you offer me forgiveness for my sins if I can humbly confess my sins and repent from those sins. Your blood on the cross covers my sins, but I need to put my trust and faith in you. That is what I need. I need to try to keep my heart clean and pure, but when I sin, which I will inevitably do, I need to take my sin to you, Lord, in prayer and repent from those sins as soon as possible. Lord, I think it is better to prepare and prevent, rather than to repair and repent. I need to remember that sin at first fascinates, and then it assassinates and ultimately grieves you.

Lord, I pray that I will be more willing to admit and confess my sins to you so that I can have victory over evil.

Because Lord, you are worthy of our trust, so I come to you in prayer and leave our sins at the foot of the cross for you to deal with for me. I pray that we can be transparent and humble to come to you to confess my sins. I think it boils down to the question if we are willing to admit to Lord any sin that I have committed against you or another human being? Also, if there some private sins that I am struggling to get rid of, but with no success? I can take it all to you, Lord, in confession. 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Some persons have lived manly or womanly lives, and they lack but one thing – open confession of the Lord Jesus Christ. Some men think that they must come to him in a certain way – that they must be stirred by emotion or something like that. ~ Billy Sunday was a popular outfielder in baseball’s National League during the 1880s then became a very famous evangelist.

7. Troubles Will Come

Lord, I know that I need to be realistic because troubles are guaranteed to come my way, it is my responsibility to head them off at the pass, or deal with them after the fact. I also have faith that you Lord can, and will give me your for comfort and protection. Sometimes if it is not one thing, it is another, my car breaks down, a bad report from my doctor, lose my job, a divorce, a loved one dies. Lord, there is no real way to avoid all these types of things, but you, Lord, will walk with me through them when all as I call out to you for help. I need to expect these hard times and troubles to happen in my life, so when they do, I will not be taken off guard. But I also know you will hear and answer my prayers.

Lord, without you, I do not understand how those who do not know you can make it through hard times in life.

But with you, Lord, I know I have nothing to fear because you have overcome the world. We know that we still will have troubles, but with you, Lord, all things are possible, and you will not allow anything outside of your ultimate will. I know that problems and pain are an inevitable part of life, and the most comforting words to hear are that you are with me always. Something we need to remember that you Lord, came into this world to make sinful people good and bridge the gap between you and us wicked men. John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and repeat to yourself, the most comforting words of all; this, too, shall pass. ~ Ann Landers was an American advice columnist. She wrote the “Ask Ann Landers” column for 47 years.

8. Healing Through Confession

Lord, I know that when I confess and repent from my sins, I am renewed, and as a result, I no longer let sin interfere with my prayers. It was not until I could see my sins for what they were; it was only then that I could confess them, and begin to heal from them. Confession to you is the most important, yet disclosure to one another can also be a way to find healing and getting right with God again. I have already asked myself why my prayers are not being answered? Then I ask myself this question, “Am I living a righteous life today, and have I confessed my sins to you, Lord?”

Lord, when I confess my sins to you and repent of my sinful ways, you forgive me and make things new.

You have redeemed me, and I am thankful for your mercy. Help me have victory over, and evil never to be afraid to confess my sins to you, Lord, because you are the source of my healing. To confess my sins is like washing our clothes, they will be cleaned, yet will inevitably need to be washed again, it is an ongoing thing for us to need to do. James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Every spirit that does not confess Jesus, is not from God. ~ John Piper is an American Reformed Baptist pastor and author.

9. The Truth Will Set You Free

Lord, please help me to keep focused on you and the truth, and not be swayed by untruths even though they may seem promising in the short run, they can be fatal in the long run. The truth may not always feel good or be convenient, but without a doubt, it is the very best policy to follow. The best way to spot a counterfeit is to study the real thing. When I follow your truth Lord, I will know the truth, and then I will be set free from the lies of the devil. Lord, since the truth will set me free, I used to wonder if it is ever okay to lie?

Lord, sometimes the devil clouds our vision and sends us lies in an attempt to steal from us, kill us, and ultimately destroy us.

Give us the wisdom we need and help us to focus on you and your truth, Lord. Then I need to ask myself, how willing am I to follow after the truth, when the truth is not always easy to follow? Lord, help keep my mind clear from distractions and temptations that keep me in bondage. If my conscience is not free of guilt or regret, I can not be free indeed. Lord, please show me how I can practice using the Bible as the compass to know whether something is right or not? John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Victory over evil is not an impossibility. It just takes the Lord’s help.

We’ve had a major shift in what truth is and where it comes from. We’ve gone from being God-centered to self-centered, from being objective to being subjective, and from being internal to external. ~ Josh McDowell is a well known Protestant Christian apologist and evangelist.

10. Resist the Devil

Lord, we need your help to stay close to you to be able to resist the devil. We know that evil is doing the opposite of what your Word instructs us to do. It is not that difficult to understand that original sin has been passed down from Satan since the Garden of Eden. Resisting the devil starts with humbly submitting ourselves to you, Lord, simple as that may sound! It is when we feed on God’s word and follow it the best we can, I can promise you that you will always do better than if we feed on the filth and sin of this world. Part of our problem is how we, as a society, define the word evil.

Lord, like a smooth-talking salesman, the devil can get into our heads and hearts to lead us to follow his evil ways that seem so innocent, unless our eyes are on you Lord so we can see things clearly.

Give us the wisdom to understand ahead of time, so we do not fall into the devil’s schemes. Lord, we need to decide in our heart and mind now if you have any type of plan to avoid evil thoughts and deeds from overtaking us, if not, we need to get one which starts with prayer. We need to focus some of our attention on how we can guard our eye gate, and our ear gate from seeing and hearing what is evil on movies, the Internet, and in our society in general. Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

Disappointment is inevitable. But to become discouraged, there’s a choice I make. God would never discourage me. He would always point me to himself to trust him. Therefore, my discouragement is from Satan. As you go through the emotions that we have, hostility is not from God, bitterness, unforgiveness, all of these are attacks from Satan. ~ Charles Stanley founded In Touch Ministries
