Recovery principles are essential for anyone who wants to break free from the chains of addiction. The 12-step program is a fantastic tool that has helped many people overcome their addictions, but it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. While the spiritual element in the program can benefit some individuals, it may not be enough for those who rely on Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

It is crucial to understand that without living by principles, one may fall victim to anything that appears good or feels right at the moment. Seeking spiritual direction from a Bible-believing church or Christian counseling can provide support during recovery and help prevent relapse. Whether you are struggling with addiction or know someone who needs help breaking free, remember that there is hope! Recovery principles found in the Bible can guide you toward healing and wholeness if you allow them to work in your life. So take courage today and reach out for support – you don’t have to walk this journey alone! ~ Bill Greguska

Ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

What Are The 8 Principles Of Celebrate Recovery?

Recovery Principles:

Recovery principles are powerful tools that can help anyone in need of overcoming addiction and finding their way back to a fulfilling life. The 12-step program is widely recognized as an effective means of achieving this goal, but it’s important to remember that its spiritual element may not align with everyone’s beliefs. While the term “Higher Power” may be inclusive for people from all walks of life, those who seek guidance from Jesus Christ should lean on their church for direction.
Recovery principles rooted in faith can be found throughout the Bible, and Christian counseling or a Christ-centered 12-step program can provide additional support on the journey toward healing. Remember: you don’t have to face addiction alone – many compassionate people would gladly walk alongside you through every step of your recovery process!

What Are The Recovery Principles?

EIGHT RECOVERY PRINCIPLES

Eight Recovery Principles Based On The Beatitudes From Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount.

1st Recovery Principle

Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor. Matthew 5:3a

2nd Recovery Principle

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover.
Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

3rd Recovery Principle

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.
Happy are the meek. Matthew 5:5a

4th Recovery Principle

Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.
Happy are the pure in heart. Matthew 5:8a

5th Recovery Principle

Voluntarily submit to any changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.
Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires. Matthew 5:6a

6th Recovery Principle

Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when to do so would harm them or others.
Happy are the merciful. Happy are the peacemakers Matthew 5:7a, Matthew 5:9, Matthew 5:23-24

7th Recovery Principle

Reserve a time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.
1 Corinthians 10:12, Colossians 3:16

8th Recover Principle

Yield me to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and my words.
Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires. Matthew 5:10

Some Specific Scriptures To Encourage You:

2 Timothy 3:16 ESV

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

Hebrews 4:12 ESV

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Colossians 3:5 ESV

Put to death, therefore, what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Galatians 5:19-21 ESV

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
